One external face of a box spring mattress is covered with a light fur or velour made from wool incorporating natural or synthetic fibres, as a loop or cut pile, to provide a distinctive and comfortable surface for winter season use, esp. in direct contact with the bed sheet. The fur cover may be modified to present contrasting patterns or textures, opt. may also be applied to the other face of the mattress and/or to the four edges of the mattress. The fur surface is used in preference to a conventional cotton or tick cover to enhance appearance, feel and comfort.
