Geo-mechanical probe for oil exploration - where probe contains inflatable membrane driven against wall of drilled hole to determine properties of earth

The probe is lowered down a drilled hole, and carries a tubular test membrane which can be inflated transversely by a pressurised liq., and in the probe is an electric motor and a pump used to pressurise the liq. The pump is pref. an open hole on the wall of the probe, or is connected to a closed reservoir contg. the liq. to be pressurised. The reservoir pref. includes a membrane for equalising the presure. The inflatable test membrane is used to apply a strong pressure against the wall of a drilled hole, and possibly produces fissures in the earth so the characteristics of the latter can be determined.
