The invention relates to a arrangement for controlling and monitoring for failure, in a reliable fashion, alternating current-fed double element lamps of a light signal, in particular a warning signal, in railway signalling systems, using a controlling signalling box computer, a signal line to the signal and a lamp element monitoring device at the site of the signal. Non-wearing control with a low degree of energy consumption and, in addition, a selective error diagnosis are to be achieved. At the same time, the microprocessor technology is to be to a great extent replaced in a conductor-saving and conductor-compatible fashion. This is achieved in that according to the invention the control and failure-monitoring is configured in a conductor-compatible fashion for the conventional signalling line (4), a defined conductor (a, b, c) being used for each signal term (Vr0, Vr1, Vr2) and, in addition, only one further conductor (e) being provided for all acknowledgement processes and one further conductor (d) being provided as a common return line for all the other conductors, in that the conductors (a, b, c) lead to separate isolating transformers (8.1, 8.2, 8.3) via which the main (HF) and secondary elements (NF) of the signal lamps (for example ge2 and ge1) of the respective signal term (for example Vr0) and control devices (for example Z1, S1, Ü1, Z2, S2, Ü2) assigned respectively to the double element lamps are fed, in that the secondary elements (NF) of the various signal lamps (e.g. ge2 and ge1) of a signal term (here e.g. Vr0) for test purposes... with defined chronological staggering... the main elements ...
