REAGENT FOR DETECTING BAD BREATH AND METHOD AND INSTRUMENT FOR MEASURING BAD BREATH

PURPOSE:To quickly and easily measure bad breath with high accuracy by using bis(4-dialkylaminophenyl)methanol (where, the alkyl group excludes a methyl group) or bis(4-alkylideneaminophenyl)methanol as a reagent. CONSTITUTION:The test paper is prepd. by impregnating the reagent contg. the bis(4-dialkylaminophenyl)methanol expressed by formula I and/or the bis(4- alkylideneaminophenyl)methanol expressed by formula II to a carriage 2 such as filter paper. The carrier 2 dropped with the saliva contg. mercaptan which is the bad breath component is imposed on a transparent plate 3 and a light emitting element 4 is made to emit light. The light reflected by the carriage 2 is received by a light receiving element 6 and is passed through an amplifier and an analog-to-digital converter 7. The intensity of the reflected light is displayed 8. The correspondence of the functional evaluation of the bad breath to the increase rate of the intensity of the reflected light measured by using the test paper is thus objectively executed by using the prescribed regression equation preliminarily determined from the relation between the concn. of the mercaptan and the increase rate of the intensity of the reflected light.
