In a sea or a lake or in another body of water, sedimentation 12, 35, 50 of solid sediment material can in certain regions be achieved by reducing the hydraulic pressure in the bed of the sea or lake within the said region. Such a reduction in hydraulic pressure causes water to flow from the lake or sea into the porous bed, whereupon material suspended in the water or transported along the bed is deposited on the latter. The reduction in hydraulic pressure can be achieved, for example, by pumping water from underground drainpipes 10, 14 or other drain devices 21 extending along and close to the coastline 9.
