METHOD OF INTERMITTENTLY MOVING MATERIAL SUCH AS GRANITE, HARD ROCK, ETC. AND AUTOMATICALLY WORKING IT IN DESIRED THICKNESS

PURPOSE: To obtain a product processed into desired thickness, having no defect and having a smooth and uniform surface by arranging a chuck having an axial line parallel to the advance direction of a processed article and holding a blade on a belt. CONSTITUTION: An article 6 such as granite, a hard stone or the like is placed on a belt 7 to be intermittently advanced and a chuck 2 holding a blade is moved in a traversing direction only when the article 6 is stationary. The blade 1 is covered with diamond and rotated centering around the rotary axis parallel to the advance direction of the article 6 and, when the blade 1 is present in the vicinity of the end part of the article 6, a control means advances the belt 7 and the article 6 on the belt 7 over the distance equal to the width of the blade 6. By this constitution, processing is applied to the new part parallel to the previously processed part on the surface of the article and the article 6 uniform in thickness and having a smooth surface free from a defect is obtained. An increase in the production quantity per a unit time is achieved and the abrasion of the blade 1 covered with diamond is reduced.
