The widening element is pushed onto the end of the rod projecting over the damaged end so that the cone end points with smaller outer dia. in the direction of the core, whilst a plate is used as a fixed counterbearing at the other end of the rod. The core is expanded to the original inner dia., and a ring with several laterally forwardly protruding spikes is pushed onto the protruding end of the expanding element and pressed against the side faces of the paper roll so that the spikes engage in the side face of the core and/or in the material near the core. The mechanical expander is removed from the threaded rod and the latter is withdrawn from the core. ADVANTAGE - Simple and efficient repair of the paper roll shape.
