Treatment of latex-contg. waste water comprises: (a) adding (per kg of latex in 1m3 of waste water): 2000-4000 ml of a 2-3% aq. soln. of a precipitant (I) and 1000-1500 ml of a 0.1-0.25% aq. soln. of a flocculant (II); and (b) separating and dewatering the resulting latex sludge. (I) comprises at least technically pure, sublimed, anhydrous FeCl3, AlCl3 and Al2(SO4)3 in a wt. ratio of 12:1.3:1 to 17.2:1.8:1. (II) comprises a synthetic water-soluble nonionic organic polymer. Also claimed is an appts. for treating latex-contg. waste water, comprising a stirrer vessel (1); delivery lines, metering devices and storage tanks for precipitant (2) and flocculant (3); and an outlet line connected to a dewatering device (4). Pref. (I) has a wt. ratio of 17.2:1.8:1 and is added as a 2% soln. (II) is added as a 0.1% soln. ADVANTAGE - The process provides rapid phase sepn. of the latex particles and uses no lime to increase the bulk of the latex sludge (cf.DE2021826).
