PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively and practically prevent stress corrosion cracking generated on the outer face of a line pipe made of steel by bringing the outer face of the line pipe with an environment contg. SiOx. ;SOLUTION: The outer face side of a line pipe made of steel for transporting gases or the like is brought into contact with an environment contg. SiOx. Furthermore, as the SiOx source, the one soluble in water in an alkaline environment and mixable to the in-use outer face coating layer such as silica glass, silicone base resin or the like is used. In this way, stress corrosion cracking on the outer face side of the line pipe made of steel can be suppressed without adding expensive alloy elements.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
