An air outlet for fans in buses, ambulances etc has an opening that can be varied smoothly. There is a guide plate 7 on the fan side of the opening which can turn with at least one opening 8, plus a second plate with at least one opening that presses against the first plate. Thus the holes can be aligned or blanked off as required. The first plate has a lever to turn it on its periphery. In fact there are six holes in each plate, spaced at sixty degree intervals, each of them having an angular span of just less than thirty degrees. Thus, a thirty degree movement of the first plate changes from full output to zero output.
