METHOD FOR INHIBITING SOLID DUST FORMATION AND METHOD FOR INHIBITING DUST FORMATION ON UNPAVED ROAD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit the formation of solid dust by treating particles such as of ammonium sulfate with a blend of water or a solvent and a distillation residue obtd. in producing a specific alcohol. SOLUTION: Solid particles are treated with a blend of water or a solvent and a distillation residue obtd. in producing an alcohol of the formula: R2 -R1 -OH (wherein R1 is an optionally substd. branched, linear, or cyclic 4-12C group; and R2 is H or OH). The residue is pref. one obtd. in producing 1,6-hexanediol. The blend may contain up to about 50 wt.% water. The residue pref. in an amt. of about 2-40 lb, still pref. about 4-12 lb, is sprayed based on 1 ton of solid particles. The residue can also be used for inhibiting the dust formation on an unpaved road. A suitable fertilizer for treating with the blend is ammonium sulfate particles.
