CONCURRENT PROCESSING IN OBJECT ORIENTED PARALLEL AND NEAR PARALLEL SYSTEMS

In sequential object oriented languages such as C++, a mechanism isprovided to permit multiple asynchronous processing operationswithout compiler modifications, language extensions or specialpre-processing. A specially adapted pointer converts a procedure callinto an asynchronous task thread, while returning an expectedresponse to permit a calling program to continue processing. Thereturned value can be either discarded or converted to a futurevariable if the calling program requires the result of the separateprocessing on the asynchronous thread. The invention can be usedin parallel multiprocessor environments and in uniprocessors havingparallel processing characteristics.
