Instead of this, the foundation of the existing building is left and the building is shifted. After that, a part of the foundation is broken and the basement unit 12 is buried in that portion with the upper part thereof projected over the ground corresponding to the height of the foundation. Then, the building is returned to the initial position to extend the basement 7 under the ground of the building. Thus, the basement can be simply extended and an extension excellent in sound insulation and heat insulation can be achieved.
