Use of 4-chloro-5-((4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-amino)-6-methoxy-2-methyl-p yrimidine of formula (monoxidine, I) is claimed in the production of a pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of functional disorders associated with elevated pain sensitivity in the colon region and/or diseases of the lower digestive tract, in humans or other large animals. An Independent claim is included for a method for producing pharmaceutical preparations for use as above, by converting (I) or its acid addition salt into a suitable dosage form, together with conventional auxiliaries.
