PURPOSE:To improve the measuring accuracy for an image pattern. CONSTITUTION:An image recognizing device compares a detected detecting image pattern IS with a preliminarily-set standard image pattern and detects the coincidence of the patterns. The detecting device reads the detecting image pattern IS and operates a temporary angle theta1 of the inertial principal axis. The temporary angle theta1 is corrected with the use of an auxiliary line AL indicating the presence/absence of the reversal of the detecting image pattern IS, so that an angle theta of the inertial principal axis is determined. Based on the obtained angle theta, coordinates of the standard image pattern and the detecting image pattern IS are agreed, and the matching degree of the image patterns is obtained.
