A carbine hook (2) for attaching to a musical instrument is secured to a support band (15) which can be formed into a harness via an end buckle (16) and an intermediate buckle (19). A harness device for carrying or supporting musical instruments, especially a wind instrument such as a bass, saxophone, tuba or enphonium, comprises an arrangement of support bands worn around the neck and/or shoulders, and at least one carbine hook for securing to the instrument. The weight of the instrument is supported via a carbine hook attached to a support band which can be formed into a harness via an end buckle and an intermediate buckle, the harness being worn around the neck and over the shoulder. The intermediate buckle can also be used to alter the support height of the carbine hook, both the intermediate buckle and hook being freely movable along the length of the support band. The end buckle is pivotally secured to one end of the support band and the other end (18) is passed through the intermediate and end buckles. A pair of load distributing sleeves can be passed over the support band in order to protect the neck and shoulders. The support band is made from a material with a sufficient tensile strength.
