The retrofit equipment (10) includes an auxiliary gas turbine unit (20A), auxiliary compressor (14A) and solar collector (15A). When solar insolation is available the retrofit equipment supplies hot exhaust gases to the gas turbine boiler (25) instead of the fossil fuel burner. Independent claims are included for a method and apparatus for generating power using synthetic gas.
