PURPOSE: A method of selecting and applying a priority in a rule-based correlation analysis system for communication network alarms is provided to measure frequencies of alarms generated in various conditions, and to give weights to each alarm using the frequencies, thereby deciding priorities between rules and selecting an applied rule. CONSTITUTION: Alarms are searched in an alarm table(701). Whether an alarm value of the first alarm is larger than a threshold is decided(703), if not, to ignore the alarm, and if larger, to increase a frequency field of the alarm table by 1(one)(705). A weight field is modified in the alarm table with a result of executing a weight function receiving values of the alarm, the frequency and the current weight field as inputs(707). Rules related to the current alarm are searched in a law storage table(709). Priorities of the rules are calculated by using weights of alarms configuring the searched rules except the current alarm(711). After an average weight for all rules including the alarm is calculated, an alarm-specific rule priority readjusting module sequentially stores IDs of the rules related to the current alarm in a 'rule priorities sequence field' of the alarm table(713). The alarm-specific rule priority readjusting module decides whether the alarm still exists(714). If so, the step 703 is returned.
