The method involves defining an evaluation surface proceeding through a grid by using a computer and using only picture elements along the evaluation surface for constructing a two dimensional image. Many predefined surfaces are stored in a computer accessible library (44) and a predefined surface is selected from the library based on a radiological query for defining the shape of the evaluation surface. An Independent claim is also included for a medical tomography apparatus for generating a two-dimensional image from a three-dimensional dataset of tomography data obtained in a medical examination of a patient.
