Multiple zone tubular reactor comprises a reaction zone (I) operating with vapor cooling; a reaction zone (II) operating with circulating cooling; and optionally further zones. The reaction zone (I) is connected to the reaction zone (II). Preferred Features: The pressure of the vapor produced in the reaction zone with the vapor cooling and the heat carrier temperature produced as saturated vapor temperature can be controlled. The heat carrier in at least one of the reaction zones is water, whose vapor leaves directly in a vapor system. The reaction zone (II) operates with the same heat carrier as reaction zone (I). The reaction zones (I) and (II) are connected on the heat carrier side. Reaction zone (I) is connected to a vapor drum (40).
