Method for optimizing a mobile phone network has the following first stage steps: interactive selection of a geographical map and obtaining of geographical marketing data corresponding to the selected map area. A second stage involves processing of each contour (4-6) of the map area such that a regular cell mesh is established within it and potential base station sites determined. Potential base stations are then selected or rejected using one or more criteria relative to its usefulness. The invention also relates to a corresponding computer system for modeling the deployment of a mobile phone cellular network over a selected geographical area.
