PURPOSE: To anticipate a damping characteristic of charge potential on light receiving body for the next cycle by using a historical value and a present measured value. ;CONSTITUTION: The present (actual) dark developing potential Vddp is measured during first cycle. A deviation rate for the first cycle is calculated so as to be used for anticipating a dark developing potential Vddp for the next cycle. It thus anticipated potential is inappropriate for a final charge on the receptor, a controller adjust the value of charge to be applied upon the receptor. A locus of the historical behavior is kept during cycle down, and is used for anticipating a behavior during the next cycle. Data optimum for the next cycle is found out during the present cycle. Accordingly, a sole side surface of a suitable cycle down is a deviation from a steady-state dark developing potential Vddp which would be generated during the next cycle.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
