PURPOSE: A method for calculating effective power related to a capacitor, a method for measuring effective power consumed by a capacitor, a method for selecting a capacitor, a calculation apparatus for calculating effective power related to a capacitor, and a recording medium for storing a calculation program of a calculation apparatus are provided to obtain the effective power consumed by the capacitor by using an electrostatic capacitance, a dielectric tangent, and a waveform of a periodic voltage. CONSTITUTION: An equilibrium temperature of a capacitor for each of plural sine waves is obtained. A first capacitance and a first dielectric tangent of the capacitor for each of plural equilibrium temperatures are applied to a first mathematical expression in order to obtain a first effective power for each of the equilibrium temperatures. A voltage value and a frequency are obtained from a waveform of a periodic voltage applied to both ends of the capacitor. A second capacitance and a second dielectric tangent for each of the temporary temperatures are obtained by setting plural temporary temperatures. The second capacitance and the second dielectric tangent are applied to a first mathematical expression in order to obtain the second effective power corresponding to the periodic voltage for each of the temporary temperatures. A capacitor equilibrium temperature is determined when the first effective power is equal to the second effective power. The effective power of the capacitor equilibrium temperature is determined as the effective power of the periodic voltage.
