A method for automatic determination of the remaining service life of at least one component of a technical system has the following steps: sequential measurements of values representative of parameters relating to successful use of the component; calculation of changes in said values and calculation of a remaining service life based on the measured values, calculated changes and a calculated usage limit determined by extrapolation. A weighted average value is used to determine the remaining service life. The invention also relates to a corresponding planned maintenance system.
