The method involves describing each machine element with a suitable linear structure-dynamic model (2M,3M) independent of those of other machine elements, describing connecting elements with spring-elastic couplings (4K) of linear structure-dynamic models and iteratively solving the linear structure-dynamic models taking account of the spring-elastic couplings at steps at equal time intervals. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a computer program for implementing the inventive method (b) a computer programmed with an inventive program (c) a machine, especially a machine tool with an inventive computer as a control computer.
