Production of inorganically-modified wood, e.g. to protect against moisture, mould and pests, involves treatment with a sol made by acid-catalysed hydrolysis of alkoxide in alcohol at elevated temperature, which is then fixed
A method for producing inorganically-modified cellulose-containing material, e.g. wood, by treatment with a precursor sol (I) made by the alkoxide-sol-gel route, followed by fixing, in which (I) is obtained by catalysed hydrolysis of alkoxides in alcohols or in solutions of alcohol derivatives at elevated temperature, preferably at the solvent boiling point. Independent claims are also included for (1) inorganically-modified material as above comprising a composite consisting of the cellulose-containing or untreated raw material with an alko- or xero-gel attached to the cell walls by covalent bonds and/or arranged in columns in the supply channels of the material (2) a precursor (I) made by the above method at a temperature between 20[deg]C and the boiling point of the solvent.
