The valve unit (1) for the influencing of a flow of medium in a pipe section (2) has a valve component fitted in the pipe section and mounted to move between various opening and closing positions in relation to a valve seat. The valve component is designed as a spherical shell section and is installed in the pipe section to rotate around an adjustment axis (5) which preferably is located in an equatorial plane of the spherical shell section. The valve component is provided with at least one throughflow opening.
