Separation of the Divinyl Ether of Diethylene Glycol or Triethylene Glycol from the Monovinyl Ether of the Corresponding Oligoethylene Glycol

A process for the separation of the divinyl ether of diethylene glycol or triethylene glycol from a mixture by distillation and/or rectification is claimed. The mixture comprises at least 95 wt.% divinyl ether and up to 5 wt.% monovinyl ether of the corresponding oligoethylene glycol. A metal hydroxide is added to the mixture before and/or during distillation and/or rectification. An Independent claim is included for the preparation of a divinyl ether of a diethylene glycol or triethylene glycol by vinylation of diethylene glycol or triethylene glycol with acetylene in the liquid phase and in the presence of the alkali alcoholate of the corresponding oligoethylene glycol until the monovinyl ether content is 0.5-5.0 wt.% followed by the separation process described above.
