The dam (1) has a section facing the water side (3), and a section facing the land side (2), and the two sections are separated by a dividing wall (7) or several freezing units (8). These are located in the section facing the water. The dividing wall is constructed from panels extending from ground water level to below dam top. It is fitted into channels of permanently installed guides and these may also extend over the top of the dam. The freezing units are part of a cooling mat with intake and outlet for a coolant, and a worm condenser between them. Several cooling units can be connected to each other via couplings.
