The horse collar (1) is shaped for comfort while pulling a heavy load, and may be divided in two on the centerline. The two halves are held together by quick-release hooks, engaging blocks fastened to the ends of traces (2). The traces extend back toward towards the cart. The emergency pull cord (3) is held on hooks under the trace on one side and has loops so that it is easily grasped and pulled.
