Method for the electro-optical analysis of cell suspensions, in which an alternating electrical field from four electrodes (1-4) acts on the suspension to induce a three-dimensional polarization of the cell structures, is new. For the electro-optical analysis of cell suspensions, an alternating electrical field from four electrodes (1-4) acts on the suspension to induce a three-dimensional polarization of the cell structures. The interaction of the induced polarizing charges and the electrical field alters the cell orientation, and the change in orientation is registered optically. As a result of these changes, the structural and physiological characteristics can be established from the tensors of the cell polarizing ability. The vector of the electrical field rotates with a frequency which can trigger a cell orientation change. The cell fractions of different characteristics are detected by photometric measurement of a weakening light beam on a shift of cell orientation.
