PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive shaft construction method for dispensing with ground improvement by injection of chemicals, without opening the natural ground in a shaft, even if a steel sheet pile is cut.;SOLUTION: This shaft construction method constructs the shaft by pressing a plurality of steel sheet piles 1, and 1A to 1C in parallel in the ground surface G. Covers 2A to 2C cuttable on a natural ground side surface of the steel sheet piles 1A to 1C by a tunnel excavator T, are installed by covering a part being a passing port 18 of the excavator T. The steel sheet piles 1A to 1C for installing the covers 2A to 2C are pressed in the ground surface G, and a shaft space 13 is formed by removing sediment of a shaft side surface of the steel sheet pile 1A to 1C. The passing port 18 is opened in the steel sheet piles 1A to 1C by annularly cutting a part opposed to the covers 2A to 2C of the steel sheet piles 1A to 1C in the shaft space 13, and is supported by covering the natural ground of a passing port 18 part with the covers 2A to 2C.
