DEFORMATION MONITORING DEVICE AND DEFORMATION MONITORING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To monitor large deformation of invisible location in a large-scale structure.;SOLUTION: An optical fiber sensor exemplified in BOTDR is used. A quartz optical fiber having small attenuation of signal for long distance is used. The quartz optical fiber is apt to break, by large extension and distortion. So, by placing it in a state with the marginal length given at an arbitrary location by winding as a wave, a break cannot easily occur for monitoring objective large distortion. By arranging the optical fiber in grid on a plane structure, the location causing deformation of the structure can be detected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
