The method involves forming at least two rows (L1, L2) of pits or gorges or gutters (1) in a ploughed ground or loosened ground, for forming rain water retaining volumes in the ground. The rows are separated from each other. The pits/gorges/gutters are formed in the ground such that the bottom of the pits/gorges/gutters is not compressed. The pits/gorges/gutters have lateral walls that are not compressed or compacted. An independent claim is also included for an agricultural machine for forming multiple distinct rows of gorges or gutters separated from each other.
