"METHODS FOR USING DIAGNOSTIC AND PROGNOSTIC DIAGNOSIS IN A PATIENT, TO USE IN MONITORING ARTHRITIS COURSE IN A PATIENT, TO EVALUATE EFFECTIVENESS OF A PATIENT ARTHRITIS TREATMENT IN A PATIENT COMPOSITE PATIENT AND TO TREAT ARTHRITIS IN A PATIENT, AND, SIRNA MOLECULA ". The present invention is based on the finding that expression of sym PKC is increased in the tissues of arthritis patients as compared to normal subjects. Accordingly, the present invention provides methods of diagnosing, predicting and monitoring the course of arthritis in a patient based on increased sym PKC gene expression in arthritic tissue. The present invention further provides compounds that inhibit expression of sym PKC for use as remedies in the treatment of arthritis, including, but not limited to inhibitory polynucleotides and polypeptides, small molecule inhibitors, and peptides. Furthermore, the present invention provides pharmaceutical formulations and administration routes for such remedies as well as methods for evaluating their effectiveness.
