The present invention relates to the improved method for production of insulin in Pichia pastoris using the promoter from the glyceraldehydes-3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene for constitutive expression. The use of glyceraldehydes-3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene in the present invention facilitates the constitutive protein expression and hence avoids the requirement of addition of external inducer like methanol which is known to be hazardous at an industrial level due to large volume involved thus rendering the present invention method safe.
