Device (A) for determining the concentration of glucose (I) dissolved in interstitial fluid comprises an optical body (2), at least partly surrounded by a measuring matrix (6) that is in contact with the interstitial fluid (7); a light source (1), arranged to direct light into (2); and a detector (3) arranged to detect light transmitted from (2) and emitted in a particular direction, where (2) has a refractive index (RI) that, at a (I) concentration in (7) of 20-800 mg/dl, is 0.175 to 0.00005 greater than the RI of (6). An independent claim is also included for determining the concentration of (I) in interstitial fluid using the new device.
