The device has a controllable diffractive optical unit (6) for producing a temporal sequence of diffraction patterns (13) as test structures. The test structures are imaged on opto-electronic sensors (10), where an ideal intensity distribution of the patterns in an ideal image plane is known. An evaluation and control unit evaluates a signal of the sensors for implementing a geometric position determination up to subpixel area. An independent claim is also included for a method for geometrical calibration of an opto-electronic sensor system, in particular, a digital camera.
