The simulator has a computer unit (12) and a picture representation unit for representation of a vehicle environment (20). An input console is arranged for inputting of driving commands. A video system (11) is assigned to the simulator for detection of the vehicle environment represented by the representation unit. The video system is designed for receiving driving dynamics data from a controller area network (CAN) interface (13). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a driving simulator.
