There are provided an electrocardiographic device having an additional lead function capable of easily calculating a cardiac signal of an additional-lead electrocardiogram by using a cardiac signal of the standard 12-lead electrocardiogram measured by a potential detector (10) and a method for obtaining an additional-lead electrocardiogram. The cardiac signal measured as the standard 12-lead electrocardiogram by the potential detector (10) is stored in an electrocardiographic memory (12). Additional-lead electrocardiographic calculation means (16) calculates additional-lead electrocardiograms (V7 to V9) from the cardiac signal stored in the electrocardiographic memory (12) by using a coefficient a representing the relationship between the leads. The additional lead electrocardiograms (V7 to V9) calculated are displayed on a display monitor (20) via additional lead electrocardiographic waveform output means (18).
