METHODS OF INHIBITING HUMAN STAT3 EXPRESSION, INDUCING APOPTOSIS IN LUNG CARCINOMA CELLS, AND INHIBITING T-CELL LYMPHOMA TUMOR GROWTH, AND TUMOR MYLCOMA COMPOUND, AND COMPLEX METHODS the expression of human STAT3. The compositions comprise antisense oligonucleotides targeted for STAT3-encoding nucleic acids. Methods of using these oligonucleotides for inhibiting STAT3 expression and promoting apoptosis are provided. Methods for treating diseases, particularly inflammatory diseases and cancers, associated with overexpression or constitutive activation of STAT3 or insufficient apoptosis are also provided.
