A method for evaluating thermo-mechanical stability of rock mass around rock cavern for underground cryogenic liquid gas storage and a design method using the same are provided to evaluate the thermo-mechanical stability for restricting generation of new fractures and propagation of the present fractures, and secure the stability of the rock cavern in an actual future operation state by reflecting an evaluation result to the design. Mechanical/thermo-mechanical property of rock and the rock mass are evaluated(S10). A layout plan, such as width, depth, and separation of the rock cavern, of an underground storage facility is planed and thickness of insulation is determined(S20). A mechanical/thermo-mechanical variable is theoretically and numerically analyzed according to a mechanical/thermo-mechanical property evaluation value(S30). A freezing expansion coefficient of the rock mass is calculated according to the planed depth(S40). It is determined whether layout of the storage cavern and the design for the insulation thickness causes the new fractures to wall of the rock mass as the liquid gas is stored after the rock is excavated by using a specific formula(S50).
