An exhaust gas system for exhaust gas discharge during the combustion of Otto and diesel fuels has a drying medium installed in the exhaust gas pipe (7) in the flow of the exhaust gas and which reversibly absorbs water and water vapor at low exhaust gas temperatures and at higher exhaust gas temperatures invisibly discharges it again. The drying medium is accommodated in a container (18) with exhaust gas permeable walls and which basically fills out the cross section of the exhaust pipe.
