The permeable reactive barrier for removing unwanted materials from groundwater (4) in a groundwater bearing underground (3), comprises stakes (8) arranged to deliver a fluid or gaseous agent into the ground water, and a device for supplying the fluid/gaseous agent into the stakes, which contain fluid or gaseous agent to remove the unwanted materials partially from the ground water or to bind the unwanted materials by adsorption, bulk material bounded of the underground surrounding the stakes, and iron in the oxidation state of zero and/or +2. The permeable reactive barrier for removing unwanted materials from groundwater (4) in a groundwater bearing underground (3), comprises stakes (8) arranged to deliver a fluid or gaseous agent into the ground water, and a device for supplying the fluid/gaseous agent into the stakes, which contain fluid or gaseous agent to remove the unwanted materials partially from the ground water or to bind the unwanted materials by adsorption, bulk material bounded of the underground surrounding the stakes, and iron in the oxidation state of zero and/or +2. The ground water contains a component that is spread itself in the groundwater-bearing underground. The gaseous agent reacts with the unwanted material or removes the component in contact with the ground water. The agent is excessively present in a predetermined section (10) of each stake. The stakes are arranged in one or several rows that extend itself diagonally to a flow direction of the ground water. An independent claim is included for procedure for the production of a stake of a permeable reactive barrier.
