The method involves guiding a part of biomass (8) present in a cycle as mud or pellet slurry. The biogas (9) and biomass are hydrostatically mixed or flow-dynamically swirled with one another. The bio mixture is extracted hydrostatically or flow-dynamically. The returned activated biomass is mixed with waste water. The fraction of recirculated to entire biomass in the reactor per day is greater than a specific quantity. An independent claim is also included for a reactor for the anaerobic treatment of waste water.
