The method involves rerouting traffic carried on a path via a failed network unit e.g. link (L), in a communication network e.g. public switched telephone network (PSTN), by an inner node lying on the path. The inner node is separated from the failed network unit by a node along the path, where the inner node is provided in front of the failed network unit. The rerouting of the traffic transported on the path is signaled by the inner node in the communication network. An independent claim is also included for a network node with a unit for executing a method for rerouting traffic in a communication network after failure of a network unit e.g. link.
