The method involves free bending over edges along a bend line with straight tool motion: the bending edges are arranged parallel to the plate's longitudinal direction and the tool moves along the plate width. It involves lowering a ram between the bending edges of a die, holding the ram at the lowest point of the bend, applying compression to compensate deformation zone stresses and incremental superimposition of traction stresses with compression acting along the bend line in the plate width direction of the bent workpiece with the compression generating tool moving along the bend line.
