The machine has a power take-off mechanism arranged outside a transport plate and self-propelling the plate by a portable drive device (23) which is independent of the plate. The mechanism activates an assembly constituted of an angle transmission system (5), a shank (7) and pinions (8, 9). The pinions drive the wheels (10, 11), respectively, and are integrated to rubberized wheels (2a, 2b) rolling on the rails of a railway track.
