Missile e.g. very short range ground-to-air missile, detecting method for e.g. cargo aircraft, involves detecting alarm areas, having larger spectral magnitude and corresponding to missile detection, in search areas of time-space spectrum

The method involves determining a time-space spectrum from a signal of an optronic system e.g. imager. Search areas are created, using a time-space filter, in the spectrum to eliminate low space and time frequencies. Alarm areas are detected, using detection units, in the search areas, where the alarm areas have a spectral magnitude larger than a threshold, and correspond to a detection of a very short range ground-to-air missile in an optical field of the system. An independent claim is also included for a device for detecting a ground-to-air missile.
