The system has a set of gyroscopes (300), each outputting an intermediate frequency (IF) signal having substantially the same frequency. A processor communicates with each gyroscope to receive the IF signal, and processes the IF signals to output a directional signal. A set of mixers (318) is adapted to communicate with the related gyroscopes. Each mixer receives a signal having a natural resonate frequency from the respective gyroscope and a reference signal having a reference frequency such that the sum of the natural resonate and reference frequencies equals a pre-determined IF. An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling a set of gyroscopes utilizing intermediate frequency signals.
